Second Semester 2022 Capstone Assessments
Dear ECA Secondary Families,
During the 2019-2020 school year, the teachers and administration revised the usual exam structure for the second semester. Because of COVID, this will be the first year of its implementation. Below is a description of the new model. This description can also be found in the Secondary Handbook.
SECOND SEMESTER CAPSTONE ASSESSMENTS (8-11 GRADES)
Capstone Assessments are cumulative and based on content learned during the semester.
The assessment may be a project, presentation, or traditional exam. The classroom teacher will determine the assessment.
If there is an Ohio State Test or MAP Assessment associated with a class, there will be no Capstone Assessment in that class.
Ohio State Tests include: 8th Grade ELA, Math, and Science. Algebra I, Geometry, 10th Grade ELA, Biology, American History and Amercan Government.
MAP Assessments include 9th Grade ELA and 9th & 10th Grade Math
Please keep in mind that non-core classes will not have a Capstone Assessment as an exam grade. However, elective teachers may assign final projects, tests or similar assignment for their courses at the end of the semester.
IMPORTANT CHANGE:
Capstone Assessments will be completed during the last few days of school. In the past, students only came to the building for the classes in which they had exams. That is no longer the case of the second semester.
The building will run on a normal, eight period schedule and all students will be in the building on May 12th and May 13th. Classes with no exam/testing of any kind at the end of the year will finish the year with normal testing/assessments.
Seniors will not complete a Capstone Assessment. However, they are expected to be in the building for normal classes on May 12th and May 13th.
This year, Juniors will be allowed to exempt their Capstone Assessment IF they meet the following requirements.
2nd Semester average of 92% or higher
Record of positive/appropriate conduct (determined by Coach Moore)
No unexcused absences or no more than 6 excused absences in the exempted class.
Exemption forms are available in the front office and are due by May 6th to Mrs. Kidder. Whether a Capstone Assessment is exempted or not, Juniors are expected to be in the building all day on May 12th and May 13th.
Please click the button below to download the chart. This chart describes the end of the year assessments by grade level and includes the classes that will have a Capstone Assessment and those that do not.
Praying for a great end to the school year!
