DOUBT Day 1 (February 7th)

Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Part 1 – DOUBT DEFINED: (12 minutes)

Part 2 – Discussion: (15 minutes)

  • Doubt can be fun at times, but when it comes to important things, it often feels significant and powerful. Doubt is defined as “uncertainty or calling a premise into question.” And we can face doubt or let it consume us. Doubt is a perfectly natural place to find ourselves in. Os Guinness claims that avoiding doubt or being shamed that we feel it is a misconception that often results in “anxiety” and “bondage”.

    • Can you think of a time doubt inspired you to work harder? Maybe it was studying extra for a test or staying late after practice. Give at least one personal example.

    • In Part 1, we discuss having doubt and faith at the same time. Can you think of a time this was true for you? What helped you move out of that space?

    • Do you agree with Plato that “The unexamined life is not worth living?” Is there a time where accepting something without being critical of it could be a good thing?

    • What are your doubts? Each person is to briefly share one of his or her doubts.

Part 5 – Comment and Prayer: (7 minutes)

  • Delegate someone in your group to send an email to Pastor John with a 2-3 sentence comment on today’s content (jessig@ecaoh.com).

  • Designate a prayer journal keeper so that you can pray for each other between meetings.

  • Spend your remaining time praying for each other.

Thank you!

Pastor John
