SWOT Analysis reference guide

  • Strengths: What’s going right for the school? What does Emmanuel do well?

The first step is to identify strengths; that is, benefits which enhance the quality of Emmanuel.

    Examples:

    • Great teachers.

    • Students who care.

    • Family emphasis.

We need to know existing strengths to keep them as strengths and to make plans on how to enhance them.

  • Weaknesses: What’s holding Emmanuel back? What can ECA do better?

Seeking out weaknesses can be tricky. Sometimes we try to minimize the effect of weaknesses because they’re issues we’d rather not see.

To build a strong school and reduce impact, weaknesses must be acknowledged.

    Examples:

    • Not enough non-sports activities.

    • School size.

    • Too many clicks.

  • Opportunities: What are positive changes for Emmanuel? What could ECA do that it is not currently doing?

Opportunities have the ability to just happen. But why leave it up to fate?

SWOT analysis helps us to identify opportunities to benefit the school. And we also have the ability to create opportunity -— especially now that we’ve identified weaknesses.

    Examples:

    • Very few clubs.

    • Not doing Science Fair.

    • Sometimes a lack of kindness between students.

  • Threats: What threatens ECA from the outside? What could negatively affect Emmanuel or be and OBSTACLE?

Threats aren’t weaknesses. Weaknesses already exist and must be dealt with. Threats might lead to complications… but they might not.

Threats are to be on our radar at all times.  We need to create a plan of action to address these threats and hop to it.

    Examples:

    • Pandemic.

    • American culture turning against Christians.

    • Financial issues.
