Prayer can be difficult. We often focus on our own needs, get distracted, or don’t feel productive. Sometimes, we simply don’t know how to pray. Many people have an “orphan mindset,“ meaning they see God as a passive or evil Father. In reality, God initiated loving us, sending His Son to die so that He could adopt us as His children and heirs.
What do you find most difficult about praying to God?
Do you ever find yourself praying out of the mentality of an orphan? If so, what does that look like?

Certain people in our culture encourage us to practice a “mindfulness” that neutralizes our minds and empties them of thought. In contrast, Romans 12 says we are to renew our minds. The Lord’s Prayer sets us up to align our hearts with God’s before we ask Him for anything. We need to make time for God, practicing times of silence when we pray and not relying too much on how we feel.
How does our culture make it difficult to slow down and be still?
