Learning To Fly - Emmanuel's Aerospace Institute

Raise your hand, if you knew that Emmanuel Christian Academy has an Aerospace Institute, providing STEM College Credit education that prepares students from all over Clark County and surrounding areas for careers in the aerospace, aviation and engineering industry?

In last Sunday's Springfield News Sun paper, the below photos were featured in the Local Schools page of an exciting day for the 15 students currently taking the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) aviation courses here. They were able to take an introductory flight in a Cessna 172 at the local Springfield airport, and each was able to fly and land the aircraft twice with Colonel Bernie Willis in the instructor seat.

The 15 students in the college course program get instructions before being offered an introductory flight in a Cessna 172 aircraft at the Springfield airport, where they were each able to fly around the airport area, and land the aircraft twice.

Students are taxiing in after their flight in the Cessna 172, and already worn out by the short flight: Col. Willis said, "The goal of this phase of training is to understand the difficulty of the manned aviation realm fully before delving deeper into unmanned aviation. This is to prepare the students to understand the importance of integrating both kinds of aircraft in the National Airspace. It is our most important task in the industry right now!"
